Building commUNITY

The Lao Assistance Center of Minnesota (LACM) is a trusted cultural agency established in 1983, dedicated to serving the Lao community and other AAPI communities in the Twin Cities and rural MN.

Our Mission

Our goal is simple—to improve the quality of life for our constituents through a comprehensive range of services, including direct support, community education, capacity building, and advocacy. LACM’s mission is to harness the power of a united Lao voice to advance equity and resilience within the AAPI community.

Our Approach

Our approach to community engagement involves collaborative processes that prioritize the voices of our community, ensuring that programs are relevant and effective. Key project activities include awareness campaigns, community-based education, direct services, and capacity-building initiatives that empower community members and service providers alike.

Programs and Service Areas

LACM delivers a broad and deeply community-rooted continuum of services designed to strengthen the health, stability, and cultural resilience of Lao and AAPI families across Minnesota. Our current programs span essential supports such as culturally relevant food assistance, system navigation, and advocacy that help community members overcome barriers in housing, employment, education, and access to public benefits.

At the core of all programs is LACM’s unwavering commitment to co-creating culturally relevant services in partnership with community members, cultural leaders, and partner agencies. This collaborative approach ensures that our work reflects lived experiences, honors language and cultural values, and addresses the distinct needs of low- to moderate-income AAPI residents in both urban and rural communities. Together, these programs form a comprehensive, culturally informed service ecosystem that meets immediate needs, fosters long-term resilience, and strengthens the overall well-being of the communities we serve.
